Overview
The picturesque village of Eskdale Green is home to the Japanese Garden in Giggle Alley forest and is a fabulous base for walkers climbers cyclists and nature lovers exploring the western reaches of the Lake District. From nearby Irton Road (0.25 miles) you can catch the La al Ratty steam train as it passes through to the pretty coastal village of Ravenglass (6 miles). Landmarks include the Stanley Ghyll Waterfall (5 miles) Scafell Pike (10 miles) Muncaster Castle (7 miles) and Muncaster Fell (3.5 miles). The Esk Valley has miles of beautiful walks deep pools and impressive fells as well as plenty of pubs for you to relax in. The beautiful lake of Wast Water is to the north-east (5 miles). Entering this light and spacious property the hallway has plenty of space to leave coats and shoes and leads through to the comfortable bright and airy lounge. This is a lovely space to unwind in lightly decorated with a selection of local art. Through the comfortable lounge you will find yourself surrounded by mountains with breath-taking views in two directions. The new sun room is a warm and comfortable haven for watching the world go by over your morning coffee. You might even catch sight of the La al Ratty steam engine! The attractive kitchen/diner is also a lovely space to relax in and features a traditional flagstone floor a wood burner cosy seating and a selection of books games and toys. The kitchen is equipped with a double fan oven with ceramic hob a built-in fridge and dishwasher. The microwave and fridge/freezer can be found in the utility room which has plenty of space for wet coats muddy boots and muddier dogs. There's also a washing machine in the outhouse and a ground-floor WC. Halfway up the stairs you will find the handsome Victorian-style bathroom complete with a freestanding slipper bath with handheld shower separate walk-in shower and a WC. The first floor offers three cosy and relaxing bedrooms lightly decorated in cool neutral tones. Each of the bedrooms a king-size a twin and a double has beautiful views over Eskdale as well as a cast-iron feature fireplace and plenty of storage. Off the master bedroom is a second private sun room which overlooks the fells the railway line in the distance and the lovely garden at Birk How. This leads to the master en-suite with WC basin and large shower enclosure. Stepping outside the tiered garden offers glorious vistas over the countryside with the path of the La al Ratty Steam Railway passing across the view. A patio area with seating provides an ideal spot for al fresco dining and the terrace also features mature shrubs and a sloping lawn. A BBQ is provided and there may be a chance to spot a red squirrel visiting. Parking space is available for two cars on the gated driveway plus space for a third car on the road. Please note that the drive is short but fairly steep and is unsuitable for sports cars and low wheel-base cars. When using the drive drivers should take care to go slowly on the right-hand side of the drive. Further parking can be found in the nearby village car park. Need to know: 3 bedrooms 1 king size, 1 double, 1 twin. 2 bathrooms 1 bathroom with bath, handheld shower, separate walk in shower and WC, 1 en suite walk in shower and WC plus 1 additional WC. Towels not included. Enclosed garden with patio and outdoor furniture, BBQ (please bring your own charcoal). Off road parking for 2 cars, on street parking for a third car. Please note the drive leading to the cottage is quite steep, so be careful to drive slowly on the right hand side of the drive. Unsuitable for sports cars and low wheel base cars. Pub 0.5 miles. Please note: mobile reception is limited in Eskdale but there is a signal booster for EE in the area.
