This Privacy Policy explains how Paul James, trading as Paul James Digital (“I”, “me”, “my”), handles information in connection with the website Lake District Holiday Homes (lakedistrictholidayhomes.uk) (the “Website”). I have kept it short, because there is very little to tell. This is a directory that helps you find a holiday home in the Lake District, and it is built to collect as little about you as possible.
1. Who I am
Lake District Holiday Homes is a curated directory of self-catering holiday properties across the Lake District. It is operated by Paul James, trading as Paul James Digital (pauljamesdigital.uk). The Website does not sell anything directly and does not take bookings. Every reservation is completed on the website of one of my booking partners. If you have a question about this policy, you can reach me at [email protected].
2. The information I do not collect
There are no contact forms, no newsletter sign-ups, no user accounts and no payment processing on this Website. I do not ask for your name, email address, telephone number or any other detail that would identify you, and through normal use of the site I have no way of doing so. When you decide to book, you leave this Website and complete everything on a booking partner’s own platform, under their terms and their privacy policy.
3. Analytics
I like to know which pages are useful and how people move around the Website, but I do not believe that requires tracking you. This Website therefore avoids third-party analytics services that build profiles of visitors. Instead I use Matomo, an analytics tool that I host myself on my own infrastructure at pauljamesanalytics.uk. It runs without cookies and records only aggregate figures, such as page views, the site that referred you, your general device type and your approximate country. No personal data is collected or stored, and nothing is shared with any third party. You can opt out at any time using the control on my Cookie Policy.
4. Maps on property pages
Individual property pages include an interactive map so you can see roughly where a holiday home sits. The maps are produced with Leaflet, an open-source mapping library, using map tiles from OpenStreetMap and CARTO. When your browser loads a map it requests those tiles from those providers, and that request includes your IP address as a normal part of how the web works. I have no access to, or control over, what those providers then do with that request. Their handling of data is explained in the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy and CARTO’s privacy policy.
5. Cookies
This Website uses only a small number of cookies, all of them either necessary for the site to work or there to remember your cookie choices. It does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Every cookie is listed, with its purpose and lifespan, in my Cookie Policy, where you can also change your preferences whenever you wish.
6. Affiliate links
This Website contains affiliate links to my booking partners. When you follow one of these links you leave Lake District Holiday Homes and continue on the partner’s own website, where their privacy policy and terms apply. I would always encourage you to read a partner’s privacy policy before you book or provide any personal information. How these links work, and which partners I work with, is set out in my Affiliate Disclosure.
7. Your rights
Because I do not collect personal data about visitors to this Website, in practice there is very little personal information to which the usual rights under the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) could attach. If you nevertheless believe I hold information that relates to you in connection with this Website, please contact me at [email protected] and I will do everything I reasonably can to help.
8. Other websites
This Website links to other sites, in particular those of my booking partners. I am not responsible for the content or the privacy practices of any website I link to. Once you leave Lake District Holiday Homes, this Privacy Policy no longer applies, and you should read the policy of the site you have moved to.
9. Children
This Website is intended for adults aged 18 and over, and I do not knowingly collect any information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
I may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if I add or remove a third-party service. When I do, I will update the effective date shown at the foot of this page, so it is worth glancing at that date if you return to the site.
11. Contact
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please email me at [email protected].
Effective date: 10 June 2026
