Overview

Hollins Cottage is a holiday home in Carnforth, Cumbria. It's within easy reach of the coast. Sleeping up to 6 guests, it holds a 5-star rating. Dogs are welcome.

Where Cumbria meets Lancashire on the northern shore of Morecambe Bay, the Arnside and Silverdale National Landscape is a small but enchanting pocket of limestone hills, ancient woodland, salt marsh and shining tidal sands. One of the smallest protected landscapes in England, it sits well to the south of the Lake District, a separate designation entirely, and rewards a gentler, slower kind of holiday. For its size it is astonishingly rich. The RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss, the largest reedbed in the north-west of England, is famous for bitterns, marsh harriers and bearded tits, while the little hill of Arnside Knott and the woods of Gait Barrows shelter rare butterflies and wildflowers. The estuary brings huge skies, glorious sunsets and the strange spectacle of the tidal bore on the River Kent. Pretty villages, limestone pavements and gentle coastal walks complete the picture. This is a base for birdwatchers, gentle walkers and anyone who loves where land meets sea, with the southern Lakes a short drive north and the bay on the doorstep. A word of caution: the sands of Morecambe Bay hide fast tides and quicksands, and are safely crossed only with an official guide. Browse our holiday homes across Arnside and Silverdale and settle into one of the loveliest corners of the coast.
