Holiday Homes in The Pennines
Often called the backbone of England, the Pennines are the long upland chain that runs down the spine of the north, from the Scottish border country south towards the Peak District. More a great geographical region than a single protected area, the Pennines take in the North Pennines, the Yorkshire Dales and more, and they rise to the east of the Lake District, a separate range of high moors and green dales rather than part of the Lakes themselves. This is country made for the outdoors. Cross Fell, at 893 metres, is the highest point of the whole chain, and the Pennine Way, Britain's very first National Trail, runs its length over some of the most stirring upland scenery in England. In between lie limestone dales and gritstone moors, waterfalls and old market towns, lead-mining heritage and some of the country's darkest, starriest skies. It is a landscape of big horizons and few crowds. The Pennines suit walkers, cyclists and anyone drawn to wild, open hills, and the eastern reaches of Cumbria sit right against them, so a Pennine holiday and a Lakeland one can easily be combined. Browse our holiday homes across the Pennines and lose yourself in the high heart of northern England.
