Overview
The pretty village of Hawkshead is home to the National Trust managed Beatrix Potter Gallery housed in a 17th century building once the workplace of Potter's husband William Heelis. Other buildings of note in the village include The Old Grammar School attended by William Wordsworth and the former Courthouse. Just a few miles away from the property is Claife Heights Viewing Station a purpose-built monument that affords visitors unrivalled views over Lake Windermere which is itself only five miles from the house. Guests will find it hard not to fall in love with this stunning Victorian property with its period features and elegant accommodation. The heart of the home is the stylish lounge with its comfortable leather sofas large bay window high ceilings and original working fireplace. There is a TV DVD and hi-fi here making it the perfect space in which to relax after a day of sightseeing climbing or hiking. The property's tasteful dining room also benefits from a working fire which sits opposite the large dining table keeping the room lovely and warm on winter evenings whereas in summer the door which leads out to a patio seating area can be opened to enjoy the summer breeze. The elegant kitchen with slate floor adjoins the dining room has an Aga and hob microwave fridge freezer wine fridge and dishwasher. The washing machine can be found in the convenient ground-floor cloakroom where there is also a WC. Three of the property's bedrooms are located on the first floor two of these are tastefully decorated doubles whilst the final bedroom is a pretty twin room. Each of these bedrooms has an en-suite shower room with WC. On the second floor there is a further twin bedroom which benefits from its own TV. Across the landing from this bedroom is a bathroom with a bath basin and WC. Outside the property has a wonderful south-facing garden which includes a lawn area and a patio with seating which makes a pleasant place to relax with a drink at the end of the day.
