Overview
This fabulous cottage in the quaint hamlet of Hackthorpe is an ideal base for large family gatherings or holidays with friends. The property is opposite a family-friendly local pub which offers hearty food beside a roaring open fire. The surrounding area has a wealth of walking routes through the Eden Valley including at Lowther Castle (2 miles) which also boasts a delightful play area and cafe. Climb to the summit of Askham Fell (3 miles) for stunning views over Ullswater or head down to the water to ride on one of the iconic steamers. Just 5 miles away is the charming market town of Penrith with its cobbled lanes and wide variety of independent shops. The stylish cottage has been thoughtfully decorated carefully combining contemporary design with rustic original features. At the heart of the home is a super cosy lounge with fabulous sofas to sink into an exposed beam running across the ceiling and a crackling wood burner set in an elegant ornamental fireplace. Relax here in front of the TV or snuggle up in the window seat with your favourite book. The beautiful farmhouse-style kitchen is a real treat to cook in with a range-style oven microwave fridge/freezer dishwasher and impressive Belfast sink overlooking the garden. There's also a table for four where you can sip your morning coffee or perch with a glass of wine whilst the dinner is being prepared. To share mealtimes as a group there's a delightful dining room with a wooden table and seating for all eight guests. Completing the ground floor is a handy utility room. This space is perfect for storing all your walking gear and houses a washing machine and tumble dryer. In here you'll also find a shower room with WC. Stairs lead to the first floor where you'll discover the four magnificent bedrooms all tastefully decorated in cool tones with quirky original features and stylish accessories. There is a king-size bedroom double bedroom and two twin rooms. The bathroom with a WC on this floor is fabulous and the perfect place to indulge in a little pampering after a long walk. Wash the day away in the large shower or sink into the impressive free-standing slipper bath. To the rear of the cottage is a charming terraced garden with a raised patio and outdoor furniture so you can dine alfresco on warm summer evenings.
