Overview
Milburn Grange - Helm Cottage is a holiday home in Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria. Sleeping up to 6 guests, it holds a 3-star rating. Dogs are welcome.
Running between the Lake District fells and the North Pennines, the Eden Valley is one of Cumbria's loveliest secrets, a broad, green vale of red sandstone villages, handsome market towns and the gentle River Eden. It lies outside the national park, and that is part of its charm: quieter roads, fewer crowds, and a pastoral peace that comes as a tonic after the busier honeypots, with the Lakes and the Pennines both within easy reach. The valley is dotted with places to explore. The historic market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, once the county town of old Westmorland, sits in a loop of the Eden, while Kirkby Stephen anchors the wilder upper valley. The celebrated Settle to Carlisle railway threads through on its way over the hills, and the gateway town of Penrith, with Ullswater close beyond, marks the western edge. Castles, stone circles and red-sandstone churches turn up around almost every corner. The Eden Valley suits visitors who want a calmer, more rural base with the best of two landscapes on either hand: the high fells of the Lakes to the west, the moors and dales of the Pennines to the east. It is wonderful walking and cycling country, and a restful retreat in its own right. Browse our holiday homes across the Eden Valley and discover the quieter side of Cumbria. Our blog
